"Kunst im Licht" examines how processes of perception, preservation, and decay are mediated through digital image systems.
The film moves between interior and exterior viewpoints. Windows, reflections, and layered surfaces guide the gaze, repeatedly redirecting attention from the outside world back into the exhibition space of the Hamburger Kunsthalle. Within this setting, interviews with conservators are interwoven with atmospheric images of artworks and their material conditions.
Reflections on protective glass, shifting light conditions, and subtle distortions create a visual field in constant transformation. These elements are interrupted by digital glitches that expose the image as a constructed surface. The film gradually shifts from documentation toward a reflection on its own mediality.
At its core, the work addresses the temporal fragility of art objects. Light enables visibility while simultaneously accelerating processes of deterioration. This tension is transferred into the digital domain, where image stability becomes equally uncertain. The film reflects on how digital technologies simulate preservation while introducing their own forms of decay.
Kunst im Licht positions digital video as a medium that both documents and transforms the conditions of visibility. It engages with the question of how artistic production persists over time, and how this persistence is shaped by technological mediation.
