#nostalgia investigates how memory is shaped through the interaction of analog image aesthetics and digital image processing.
The title refers to the Russian term nostalghia, which describes a longing for a distant place as well as for a past time. This dual meaning structures the film. Fragments of landscapes are recorded through the viewfinder of a Super 8 camera and combined with digitally captured footage.
The material oscillates between different temporalities. Analog textures evoke a sense of familiarity. Digital manipulations disrupt this continuity. Layers overlap. Image surfaces begin to shift and dissolve.
Sound operates as a parallel structure. Repetitive fragments of speech merge with abstract noise and rhythmic elements. Processed voices and synthetic tones create a sonic environment that reflects the instability of memory.
The film examines how collective imagery is transformed through technological mediation. Visual and auditory filters alter perception. What appears as recollection is continuously reconfigured through digital processing.
